Logan John :: 08.18.2011

Went in for a regular appointment at the OBGYN today. Got my ultrasound done first -- looking good, baby still looking nice and BIG! Had some more fluid (about 26.5cm) but baby's heart rate in a great range.
Went to do the NST test -- two hours later, baby's heart rate was still in a good range but not accelerating as it should through his movements (he was moving a ton the day before but had slowed down a lot, not unusual for him)...so since it wasn't what they were looking for, I was sent down to Labor & Delivery to do an NST with them. Well, I ended up passing it, but luckily my doctor came down to check on me (she had been in surgery all morning/afternoon and just found out I was in L&D). She took a look at things and noticed that a) I was having contractions every 3-5 minutes (which I couldn't always feel because of all the fluid built up, but was insistent that I was having them even though they weren't showing up on NSTs) b) I had a ton of fluid this time (total opposite of James where I was out of fluid, which really threw the doctor for a loop because pregnancies are not often THIS different). Since the fluid was high and she thought we were going to be doing an amniocentesis in 4 days anyway (we were not, I had agreed to do it at 38 weeks) -- she called the Maternal Fetal Specialists because the baby was technically "late pre-term" (before 37 weeks, at 36 weeks, 5 days). Maternal Fetal told her to ultrasound again and low and behold, she found that all of the fluid was stretching the lining of my uterus out so much, it was actually close to rupturing -- YIKES! So after a frantic call to Jim to tell him to call neighbor, Rachel, and have her get James from school and for him to get there ASAP (that was at about 4:45pm), the wheels were in motion to have this baby now! I was changed and all ready to go and Jim got there within 20 minutes -- at which point they told him to change into scrubs and get ready to become a Daddy x2 :-) Surgery went well and at 5:41pm we were blessed with the birth of our second healthy baby boy!!!

Logan John

08.18.2011 at 5:41pm

6lbs 12 oz, 19.5"

If you'd like to see them, our doctor let Jim take pictures of Logan actually being born (ie. yanked out of my stomach), but I decided to spare people the gore this time :-)

Since he was born prior to 37 weeks, the hospital had some extra "rules" for Logan. He had to stay in the nursery for 6 hours for observation (not the NICU, just regular nursery). His APGAR scores were good at birth (8 at 1 minute and 9 at 3 minutes, which are great scores). He did well and when I was cleared from my observation in the recovery room, they wheeled me in to the nursery and we got to hold Logan for the first time. I let Daddy have the honors this time :-)

Nothing like that first smooch for your lil' ones!

We went into L&D with 3 names we liked, took a look at him and decided Logan it was (Jim let me kind of decide here between Logan, Gabriel and Duncan). John is from my grandfather on my mother's side and Jim's brother (Jim picked between John, Cash and Daniel for the middle name) :-) So, hopefully he ends up looking like his name! It has been hard to call him Logan after having referred to him as Cash for so long (and it's weird to have another son that's not named "James")! Happy Birth Day, Lowgs!!! We can't wait for you to meet your very excited Big Brother (he was sound asleep with Rachel watching him by the time we got to see Logan in our room at 12:30am).

Mommy's Birthday

James and I got to hang out all day on my Birthday since it wasn't one of the days he goes to school :-) He and Jim got me an awesome new HD camera (above pic is first one on it) because someone (a toddler to remain unnamed) has a love for taking pictures, but is not so good at patience and waiting for it to be ready (thus, old camera would toggle randomly between picture and video). By bedtime, James still wouldn't acknowledge it was my Birthday. When I asked him why, he said "Mommy, no candles, no hat!" haha, the minds of children! So I put his stuffed bunny on my head as a "hat" and he sang me "Happy Birthday." Then when I got downstairs I had Jim put a candle in a Klondike bar and had him sing, too :-) James is right, not a Birthday without a candle and a Birthday hat!

Meet Ms. Sofia

Sofia is here!!! She made proud parents out of Jen and Dominic on June 11, 2011 :-) She was 6lbs 4oz and 19 1/2 inches long and cute as a button! James can't wait to meet "Baby Fia."

Celebrating Jim and John's Bdays

We visited Kampai Japanese Steakhouse to celebrate Jim and John's Birthdays. James loved (not so much love from Dad or Uncle John) when the men came to sing Happy Birthday to them!
James mastered using chop sticks within 30 seconds of getting the helpers -- such a fine and gross motor genius, haha! (I mean, he's been gallopping for over a year now and I had kids in Kindergarten PE who couldn't do that)

Daddy's Birthday

Me: "Happy Birthday to..."
James : "Daddy!"
James has become quite the singer -- Happy Birthday is one of his go-to songs these days, which worked out perfectly for Daddy's big day!!! Jimmy got hooked up with a new electric razor for his Birthday :-)

Happy 2nd Birthday, JamesE!!!

Our Bug is 2 years old already!
On his new tricycle -- he definitely had a temper tantrum as we tried to get him to go upstairs to bed -- wanted the bike to go with him
Homemade Elmo Birthday cake! Mommy did the decorating; GG & Daddy tried to make the icing colors; Uncle Larry picked the icing tips to use -- definitely a team effort, but not too bad for our first attempt!
Doing downward dog on his new mat to play with his cars on
Diggin in to his Elmo cake and eating the crayon cookies Laura brought
Baby Ainsley enjoyed herself some rice cereal to celebrate. James had a great time playing with her and practicing "gentle" touches so he didn't hurt her :-) He missed her when she left, all week he said "Shh, Baby Ains sleepin'." Casey and Jo came to help celebrate :-) James was so surprised!
Uncle John found a matching shirt for James to wear
Uncle Dom and Aunt Jen making James laugh
Birthday kisses from his grandmothers -- GG and Gma Chele attacked!
James always enjoys his time with Pops
Aunt Cassie and Uncle Brian's gifts have a record of being big hits: James mowing the house and carrying his Elmo balloon around --he continues to mow the house and "park the mower" before bed every night.

JAMES IS TWO!!!! How the heck did that happen already?!?!?! He finally got the concept that it was "James Birfday" the day before, so it was a lot of fun to talk to him about his big day. He also knows that he's "Two" (but will only answer that if you ask him "how many are you, James?"). He helped me make cupcakes and he took them in to enjoy with his friends and teachers :-) Yummy!

Welcome, Jaidyn!

Congratulations to John and Lynn on the birth of their first daughter -- Jaidyn Marie joined the world on 11.8.2010 :-)

Month 19

James started his 19th month in Michigan. We went up to Grand Rapids to help celebrate CJ and Jen Starr's wedding. CJ is a very long time friend for me -- since I was 1 year old! It was great to celebrate with the Starr Family!

A. Cass worked hard for that pic! Handsome toddler! Happy Couple! James playing "spoons" as instruments w/ GG

Pops and his grandkiddos! Ainsley is a little easier to handle these days :-)
Gross girls with CJ, the groom!

I had to disconnect the phone in our hotel room....so James could play with it in the bathroom (I don't know, but he insisted and it kept him out of trouble)
Other Month 19 happenings (some pics included in slide show below) :: 1st trip to a bookstore; Mommy and Daddy get kisses on the mouth now, with James' mouth (usually) closed; says "home" when we leave school, "geese" when we drive past them; got sick at a store for the 1st time (and Mommy didn't feel too badly she didn't have to clean it up, sorry Hancock Fabrics); visited John & Lynn before their baby is born and saw a bunch of friends; raked up leaves and then jumped in them!!! Imitates Mommy snapping her fingers; makes noises like a fire truck when we pass them on the way home; made trip #2 of the season to the pumpkin farm to get better pics and some more apple cider donuts (yummy); Illinois beat IU for football homecoming (sorry Uncle Brian, but we've got braggin' rights for this year); tooth #12 finally came through -- all the molars are in! got another hair cut (it grows so quickly); were THE CUTEST lion EVER for Halloween (we had to bribe James w/ being able to play outside with "Ab-bee" if he put on the pants and jacket :-) whatever works, right)! James is getting pretty good at talking on the phone, even though most answers are "yeah", "Daddy" and "Hi, Hi, Jo Jo;" also using a lot more sentence-structure in his jibbering; he was soooo excited to go visit the 2's playground and climb around like a monkey like a big kid!

We have a 1 1/2 year old!!!!

How in the world did this happen so quickly?!?!?! How is James already one and a half years old?!?!?! I still have pain from my c-section, surely this isn't possible that he's already this old?!?!?
Everything goes into the mouth -- gotta watch this kid like a hawk!
James had his 18-month doctor appointment :: back on the charts, WOO HOO! Go James! Well, go James at drinking your Kid's Essentials everyday -- those guaranteed 240 calories are definitely working! He was up to 22.2 pounds (3rd percentile; from off the charts at 19.2lbs at 15-months) and 30 inches tall (9th percentile) with a 47.2cm head circumference (lots of brains = big head, right, putting him in the 50th percentile there). Poor kid got 3 shots, including his flu shot, so hopefully that stays out of our house this year! He passed with flying colors on all the physical developmental stuff (+3 word, check!; autism questionnaire, check!; drinks from sippy, check! imitating mom and dad, check!) and is catching up on the teeth (9 total now -- popped out a molar last week)! Overall, he's lookin' darn good if we must say so ourselves :-) Very proud of all our 18-month old has accomplished so far and can't wait to see what he has in store for us next! We love you, Bug!!!!

Welcome, Ainsley Elizabeth!!!

OUR NIECE IS FINALLY HERE!!!!! Ainsley Elizabeth joined us via c-section on September 7, 2010 at 9:24pm. She weighed in at 6lb 9.5oz and was 19 inches long. She has a full head of dark, coal black hair (like her mama) and blue/grey eyes (from her Daddy) and long long fingers.
The first picture of the new-look Motes family together (big sister Madilynn had school and couldn't get there until later in the week)
GG and her new granddaughter (LOVE the hats with the bows...so cute)! Pops and GG checking out Ms. Ainsley
Great Grammy got to meet Ainsley on her birthday too -- good thing we talked her into moving to Indy!

17 Months!!!!

Our lil' buddy is 17 months old!!! We just can't believe it! He's growing up so quickly, I'd like to just bottle him up to keep him like this forever (OK, we can add "potty trained" and "good eater" in the mix). And he finally hit a solid +20lbs, so he can now safely be forward facing in his car seat! It's so cool to look back and see his big brown eyes looking at you :-) Although he's already asking for the "kees" and telling me to turn the car "ahn" -- thinks he'll be driving by 2, I guess!
James figured out he can use the side rail of the obstacle course to shimmy his way up the slide and go down head first -- somehow, for him, I think this is safer than the alternative of going down on his butt.

Aunt Amanda's Surprise Party

The rest of the week involved some water table fun (mostly dumping the water out onto Mommy's feet) and Friday we went to the Farmer's Market with Laura S. and Rachel and Abby Wehrle. James was a huge fan of the apple pie bread I bought -- he kept saying "Yeah Yeah Yeah" and emphatically doing the sign for "more" during lunch. Saturday we attended a Surprise 30th Birthday party for Aunt Amanda! Ada and Gunnar had a luau theme -- James loved the lei's and insisted on wearing one until it got itchy because it was warm. I even dressed him in his White Sox outfit, just for Aunt Amanda.
Waiting for Aunt Amanda to come with Daddy
Playing Nok Hockey with Davin (who just started taking some independent steps himself)
I hope they share this nicely in a few years!
Hanging out with the Birthday Girl
Sunday, July 25 :: Gma Chele's birthday, so James and I called her to wake her up in Utah to start her day :-) James also started doing his version of the sign for "please" today -- patting his belly or chest with both hands repeatedly. He also discovered how to "blink" on purpose -- soooo funny to catch him as he tries to do it :-D
Monday, July 26 :: we joined the Wehrle's again for James' first trip to the Public Library!!! The kid's section is fabulous there -- he, Abby and Bella enjoyed "returning" books at the wooden book return the most today. Then we went to Applebee's and James munched on some of my chicken tenders (he only likes to get the whole big piece now, gets mad when I break them up, even if burning hot).
Tuesday, July 27 :: James went on a field trip with his class to Pet Smart! They all enjoyed getting out of the buggy to play with the kittens ;-) James also came home that night saying "oof" as he pointed to Easton!!! I've been trying to get him to make an animal noise -- guess all I needed to do was take him to the pet store!
Wednesday, July 28 :: my mother's day present came through -- a house cleaning by Molly Maids!!! Thank you so much to Jim and James and Easton!!! The house looks great and I love not seeing so much dust around :-)
